Design for Boardwalk & Community Docks
This spring and summer, the City of Wayzata is focused on updating and confirming the design for the public boardwalk and community docks proposed in the next phase of Panoway of the Panoway on Wayzata Bay initiative. The new boardwalk will stretch easterly from the Wayzata Depot to the Broadway docks, with a path on land leading to the Section Foreman House.
The work will also include restoration of 2,000 feet of the shoreline to help restore the northern lake edge of Lake Minnetonka to its natural state by reintroducing native plants, trees and pollinator habitat with its related ecology.
Section Foreman House Preservation & Renovation
At the same time, the City is moving forward with its work to preserve and restore the historic Section Foreman House. Built by Great Northern Railroad as the railway continued to expand in the early 20th century, the house is nestled between the tracks and Lake Minnetonka at 738 Lake St. N.
With input from a diverse set of community stakeholders, including the Wayzata Historical Society, the City is working to bring this recognized National Historic home back to life. The intention will be to create a new vibrant lakefront learning center providing indoor and outdoor classroom and community space as part of the Panoway project and proposed Eco Park that the community will enjoy for generations to come.
Renovations are planned to start in 2023, following a renewed design process and continued input from residents.
New Panoway District Committee
In addition, the City has created an ad-hoc committee to focus on and provide recommendations for public safety, operations maintenance, and events in and around the new Panoway area. Based on community feedback, the City is currently working on sidewalk signage to make it clear that the bike path is actually a multi-use path for both bikers and walkers. The new images on the pathway should help educate and improve safety in the space.
