Hello Chamber Members or fellow Star Wars Geeks. The month of May brings warmer temps, blooming flowers, and the fresh beginnings of summer. From May Day celebrations to Memorial Day, May is a month worth celebrating. Oh, and we can’t forget about Star Wars Day! Read on for the many ways you can connect, support local businesses, and grow your own business.
The final Leadership Luncheon is on Thursday, May 25 from 11:30 – 1 p.m. We are thrilled to welcome Suki Dardarian, Star Tribune Editor and Senior Vice President, Jana Shortal, Kare11 News Reporter, Anchor, and Host of Breaking the News, and Kathy Robideau, Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal Market President and Publisher. We will explore what’s changing in the news industry, how people consume news. Come find out what drivers are working behind today’s news sector and how it impacts your perception of the world around us.

Right around the corner is the 64th Annual Roger Miller Golf Event on June 5 at Burl Oaks Golf Club. We’ve got a wonderful tournament planned for you this year. Lastly, mark your calendar and don’t miss Wayzata’s premier summer festival – The Wayzata Art Experience, June 23-25, 2023. The festival will be expanding to over 150 juried artists from across the country, 15 food trucks, a food artisan market, an activity zone for families and kids, a beer + wine garden, free sailboat rides, as well live music all weekend long. And I have some exciting news! We are welcoming a brand new music festival to Wayzata Art Experience weekend! WaamFest (Wayzata Art And Music Festival) featuring Steve Aoki and Gryffin. This will be one art-filled, high energy weekend. Tickets are on sale here. Volunteer and sponsorship opportunities available.

MEMBER UPDATES
Congrats to Birch’s on the Lake for taking home 2 awards from the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild’s MN Brewers Cup Competition! This state-wide, blind taste-test competition had 450+ beers entered from over 90 breweries and brewpubs in the State. Birch’s Hazy IPA, a cloudy juicy IPA, took home first place as the best tasting Hazy IPA in the
state! Birch’s Blonde Ale, a light easy drinking ale, took home second place in its category. Cheers!
After three years of consideration, the Boards of Directors of the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Historical Society, Museum of Lake Minnetonka (Steamboat Minnehaha), Wayzata Historical Society and Westonka Historical Society have voted unanimously to approve a Plan of Consolidation among the four organizations. An informational session on the plan will be held in the Community Room on Thursday, May 4, at 7:00 p.m. Click here for more information on the proposed consolidation.
The Wayzata High School student council was awarded a 2023 National Gold Council of Excellence Award by the National Student Council (NatStuCo). WHS student council was recognized for its impressive leadership, service and activities that improve the school and community. Congrats to this fantastic group of students!
PetSuites Plymouth celebrated their brand new location the whole month of April and we were thrilled to be there to cut the big blue ribbon. Congrats to that team and go visit their store in Plymouth!
