A NOTE FROM THE BOARD CHAIR

Happy August Chamber Members!

Thanks to all of you who came to our Annual Member Appreciation Picnic. My earned run average took quite a hit in the home run derby, but the Twins did reach out, saying I’d fit right in their reliever corps. If you were not able to attend, please know you are appreciated and we are grateful for your membership!

Hopefully you were able to join us this afternoon at the Night to Unite Kickoff Luncheon. It was a wonderful program and time for special recognition, in a room filled with Chamber members, City staff, residents, surrounding community guests and Rotarians. If you weren’t able to make it today, please join us at one of our ribbon cuttings this month where we are welcoming a handful of new members. Check our calendar, and come say hi!

As we gear up for James J. Hill Days next month, I want to highlight a great opportunity for new members to connect and get involved. On August 23, we are having a New Member Orientation & Breakfast at 7:30am at the Depot. Come join us and learn what the Wayzata Area Chamber does, and how you can get the most out of your Chamber membership. It’s also a great chance to learn about the upcoming volunteer opportunities for James J. Hill Days. In my experience, volunteering at James J. Hill days is the best way to connect with the community and other Chamber members. It is inspiring to see all of the hard work from volunteers, and the small but mighty Chamber staff, that goes into an event enjoyed by so many all over the Twin Cities.

Stay cool, and I’ll see you at a Chamber event this month.

– AJ Meyer, 2022 Board Chair, Sanford, Pierson, Thone & Strean, PLC

MEMBER UPDATES

We are sad to share the passing of our dear friend, Gail See. Gail opened The Book Case, a gem for Wayzata, in the 70’s. As a long standing member of the Chamber, she worked to keep a thriving retail environment. Gail was Chamber Person of the Year in 1987 and remained an active member and community supporter all her life. She was the first female member of Wayzata Bank & Trust, now Wells Fargo, a founder of Interfaith Outreach and along with Fire Chief Paul Klapprich a co-honorable chair of Wayzata’s 150th Anniversary Celebration. There will be a celebration of life in September. Read Gail’s Obituary here.

Hotel Landing was vote one of Travel + Leisure’s Top 10 Best Resorts in the Midwest. Congratulations to the whole team at Hotel Landing!

Twin Cities Live visited The Muni on Friday and we are grateful for their highlights of Wayzata, great members, and mentioning of a couple of our favorite events, James J. Hill Days and Boo Bash Dash. Check out their two segments: Wayzata Round-Up and Food at The Muni.
