Cheers to 20 Years
The Wayzata Art Experience has grown so much in the past 20 years and there are so many who have helped take this festival to new heights. One of those key individuals is Ellen Timmerman-Borer, who served on the Wayzata Art Experience Committee back in 2004, when the fair was held in Shaver Park (first picture on the left). “If I recall, it was sort of a swamp that year. Cindy Leines at CEL Marketing PR Design was the founder of the event and instrumental in gathering art enthusiasts, organizers, and planners to make it happen.”
Once the fair moved to Lake Street, it seemed the door swung wide open to grow the event and add a variety of activities throughout the weekend. Ellen shared that Chamber staffers and committee members took the event to another level, “We were thrilled to work with the City and Police to move it to the street. Each year we added something new, garden artists, custom boats, music, food, dance…to broaden the kind of art and to engage more of the community. Our little art fair became The Art Experience.”
Like every event, there are years when things don’t go the way you want them to, and with the unpredictable June weather in Minnesota, the art experience has endured those challenges. In 2013, strong storm winds came through the festival, causing chaos and heartbreak to organizers and artists. “The resiliency of the community, chamber, city, and volunteers is incredible. Even with mother nature to contend with, we stay committed to the community, the businesses, and the artists to return each year with enthusiastic planning, execution, and great customer service”, said Ellen. We look forward to making the 20th Wayzata Art Experience the best yet!
