Chilly Open 2020 – A Roaring Good Time
What a fabulous weekend it was! Thank you, golfers, sponsors, and volunteers for ROARING into the 20s with us.
The weekend kicked off with the annual free and family-friendly Cinema & Skates event on Friday night. Families joined us in the heated 19th hole tent for hot cocoa, popcorn and a screening of Toy Story 4. Being significantly warmer than last year, Wayzata Bay’s north lagoon housed a healthy crowd gliding on the lumenary lit ice.
Saturday, hockey stick in hand and sled in tow, golfers flocked the 6Smith parking lot to drop of their team and check in for their Tee Time. Meanwhile, only the hardest Minnesotans started their day with SNOWGA, yoga on frozen Wayzata Bay. The calm before the storm.
New Participant Wins Chili Cook-off
As golfers made their way onto the ice, local restaurants began setting up for the annual Chili Cook-off in the 19th hole tent. Thank you to the 2020 celebrity chili judges Stepanie March of Mpls St. Paul Magazine, Instagram Influencer Paul Puttenhoff, Weekend Meteorologist Cody Matz and of course, Mayor Ken Willcox. This year, the judges awarded first place to a brand new participant, Winchester & Rye. Runner up, for the second year in a row, was Fork & Flair Catering and in third was a local favorite, McCormicks Pub & Restaurant. Golfers choice was awarded to 6Smith. Want to participate next year? Congratulations Golf Hole Sponsor Winners
Each year, local sponsors set up shop on each hole and create an experience for the golfers. Judges made their way around the course and scored each hole based on theme, enthusiasm and giveaways. This year, while there were so many awesome and entertaining holes, three stood out above the rest. Congratulations to blue course winner, Wayzata Rotary, red course winner (and our presenting sponsor) Porsche Minneapolis, and yellow course champion, Youngstedts.
