2013 Wayzata Art Experience Cancelled due to Severe Weather

Posted on June 24th, 2013 under News Flash.
The Greater Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce with the City of Wayzata decided to cancel the Wayzta Art Experience for both Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and 23. Storm damage on the night of Friday, June 21 included 36 downed power lines and no power in the city of Wayzata. There was no timeline of when Xcel Energy would be in town to restore power. The weekend forecast called for more significant thunderstorms throughout the weekend.

We are deeply saddened with the cancellation of the Wayzata Art Experience.  It was a very difficult decision, but based on the information we had at the time working with the city it would have been irresponsible and unsafe to bring thousands of visitors into the City of Wayzata.

Although the event was cancelled, we cannot express enough appreciation and gratitude to everybody who volunteered their time and effort to prepare for, organize, and clean up the area where the Wayzata Art Experience was to be held. We would not be able to organize and host these events if it were not for the generosity of time offered by all of the great people in our Chamber and community. We are very fortunate to be in a community where people give of themselves so freely.

There are many people and groups involved in the Wayzata Art Experience and we are pulling together key resources to determine how we move forward. We will continue to communicate with all concerned and impacted by this unfortunate event and we thank you for your patience, understanding, and assistance.

The Wayzata City Council held an Emergency Meeting this morning to discuss how to best move forward with the cleanup efforts around the community. There are still several downed trees and power lines. Some of these lines may still have current flowing through them. Please avoid these areas and take extreme caution.
